Johnny Depp Announces Retirement
It is always a blow to fans when they hear about an actor or actress that they favour is leaving the film industry. I found it amusing that after having read an article in the paper about Mr. Depp’s announcement of his future retirement plans from acting, the editor states that many actors and actresses are getting tired of the ‘mean spirited attitudes’ of the public on line: “Johnny Depp isn’t the…….
I found it ironic that the editor, (who’s name I will not post) had an insulting dig of her own to pass along about Mr. Depp’s way of speech: “Johnny Depp…..
Along with a dash of sarcasm: “The actor, 50, said there were quieter things he could be doing. ‘I wouldn’t say I am dropping out any second, but would say it’s not too far away’. Not before the all important ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ or that ‘Alice in Wonderland’ sequel, surely? ‘I think we’re all right in those categories“. Whew.”
I got the distinct impression the editor is not a huge Depp fan by any means, but wrote the article about his retirement knowing full well it would make headlines. I don’t blame actors and actresses to “fall away” from the big screen due to continuous criticism and petty insults on the Internet. Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Group Forums, Chat Rooms and Web Sites have made it all too easy to slander celebrities or people in general. I understand about freedom of speech, but what ever happened to the respect of others and the “freedom” for them to be themselves? We’re not all perfect, and I am sure the editor who wrote this article has his/her own insecurities and imperfections, as we all do. Johnny Depp has a shy demeanour especially ahead of the Media, which for some, puts horrible pressure on their thinking patterns. How can we teach our kids not to become cyber bullies when many adults are bullies themselves? The Lone Ranger (for example) got unnecessarily panned… it was a good film in the way of adventure, humour and good old fashion “Return of true Hollywood Entertainment”. These days, many ‘garbage flicks’ get the thumbs up. I blame the endless lists of mindless reality shows for that.
