A Heartwarming Event

A 4 year old girl, as a true pirate, stole my heart….

I attended the most incredible Halloween event/gig that truly touched my heart.  This family gave up half their house/home (and entire backyard) to a ‘pirate’ make-over creating a safe Halloween environment for young children.  There were 6 different stations including hidden passages and tunnels, each provided with an actor.  A Hundred people attended, 50 of whom were kids ages 4 – 8.  Separated into 6 groups, (each group baring the name of a famous Pirate ship), the kids would proceed in their individual groups to each station.  The reception of my presence as Jack from both parents and kids, was phenomenal….. but one little 4 year old girl stole my heart.  When the event came to a close, the little girl didn’t want me to make my departure. She placed her small little hand in mine and led the way back through all the stations ending up in ‘Pirates Lair’ where I was originally appointed.  There we played some games.  Once her father came to ‘claim’ her to leave ‘port’, she was handed a ‘Pirate Apprenticeship Completion Certificate’ by the host. Since she was too young to read handwriting,  I pointed out that Captain Jack had signed the bottom her Certificate.  She looked up at me with a warm and gentle smile and with both little hands, grabbing one of mine, proceded to manipulate my baby finger into a shape of a hook and engaged her baby finger, (also shaped as a hook), into mine.  She looked me straight in the face, again with her gentle smile, and said, “friends forever”.

I almost broke character and become a “slobbering” mother.
