Bringing some Piracy to STEAMPUNK
The following explanation is through internet research, (ie Wikipedia etc.)
Steampunk is a genre which came to existence during the 1980s and early 1990s incorporating elements of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, horror, and speculative fiction. It involves a setting where steam power is widely used (the Steam-) ~ whether in an alternate history such as the Victorian era, or in a ”Wild West” era, or in a post-apocalyptic time (Diesel Punk) that incorporates elements of either science fiction or fantasy ~ along with some rebellious aspects against some of it (the punk).
In general, steampunk includes any recent science fiction that takes place in a recognizable historical period (sometimes an alternate history version) where the Industrial Revolution has already begun, but electricity was not yet widespread. It places an emphasis on steam or spring-propelled gadgets. The most common historical steampunk settings are the Victorian and Edwardian eras. A recognizable steampunk movie (Victorian era – Britain) ~ Sherlock Holmes.
